Dancer with shield
Patinated bronze, black stone base. inscribed "R. Colinet". H 50.5 cm / 42.5 cm. 3.86 kg.
A dynamic dancing female figure standing on tiptoe on a round stone base, the other leg raised to form a flowing robe, arms outstretched to the sides with a shield in the raised hand and a kind of curved dagger in the other. Signs of age and wear, patina slightly rubbed, base minimally chipped.
If this is Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet, then: French Art Deco sculptor (1880 Brussels - 1950 Asnières-sur-Seine), her figures often had very dramatic scenes as their subject and show the models in poses, which often represent a snapshot of complicated dance steps or the climax of a biblical story or historical narrative.
