Textile collector's item "Tekke Ak-Tschowal".
Late 19th century West Turkestan.
Wool, woven and hand-knotted. Natural coloration in shades of red, blue and white. Approx. 80 × 120 cm.
Flat woven fabric with red and white horizontal stripes, interspersed with woven ornamental stripes, elem with "Ashik" trees, kilim finish with fringes. Restored, slightly stained, missing reverse, slight marginal defects in places.
A Turkmen ak-chowal is a large storage bag made using a mixed technique of flat and pile weaving.
