Small oriental tapestry with courtly equestrian scene.

Wool, hand-knotted. Polychrome decoration, slightly rubbed. Approx. 79 × 72 cm.
An approximately square format depicting a landscape with a tree of life and birds, a stream with fish and a princess and maid on horseback receiving a kneeling oriental, narrow border with a floral design, fringes. Possibly a scene from the Persian narrative tradition, possibly from the love story "Chosrau and Shirin" by the Persian poet Nezami (around 1141-1209, the most important representative of the „romantic epic in Persian literature“). Slight signs of age and wear, minor defects in places.
