Patinated bronze. inscribed "Dalou". H 18.5 cm. 2 kg.
Depiction of an unclothed young woman sitting on a rock, her face desperately buried in her raised hands and reaching towards the sky in search of help. Patina partly rubbed, minor holes and cracks.
If it should be Aimé-Jules Dalou, then: French sculptor (1838 Paris - 1902 ibid.), 1849 student at the drawing school of the Rue de l'école de médecine, where he was taught by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux in drawing and modeling after antiquity. in 1854, Dalou was admitted to the Paris School of Fine Arts, where he studied painting under Abel de Pujol and sculpture in the studio of Francisque Joseph Duret. From 1890, he exhibited in the 'revived' Société Nationale Des Beaux-Arts, of which he was a founding member together with Ernest Meissonier, Auguste Rodin and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes.
