IMMENDORFF, Jörg (1945 Bleckede - 2007 Düsseldorf)
Standing monkey "Malerstamm - Armin Dietrich"
Bronze, black-green patina. Probably 2005, inscribed "Immendorf", foundry mark "Schmäke Düsseldorf" and edition mark "8/9". H 29.5 cm. 3.76 kg.
Figure of a standing monkey with a small insect on the outstretched finger of his raised right hand. Behind him on the polygonal plinth are several flowers.
The group of works "Malerstamm" by Jörg Immendorff shows monkeys as symbols of an artistic community. In an ironic twist, Immendorff transfers the concept of the "tribe" to the art world and depicts artists as both creative and instinct-driven actors. The monkeys function as a mirror of human behavior and critically refer to dynamics such as competition, vanity and imitation within the art scene. All lots with a limit (starting price) of at least €2,000 are checked against the Art Loss Register database.
