Equatorial sundial, Augsburg type.
Brass, silver, iron, glass. Diameter approx. 6.2 cm. 0.063 kg.
Equatorial sundial of the Augsburg type with hinged plumb bob, polar arc and scale ring. With engraving of the clock and compass maker Nikolaus Rugendas III (1665 - 1745): Nicolaus Rugendas in Augsp 48 Gr on the base plate. In the original case. Signs of age and wear, the glass with a crack throughout, but currently holding securely. The leather case with clear external signs of wear.
An equatorial sundial is a design in which the dial is parallel to the equatorial plane and the shadow rod (pole rod) is aligned parallel to the earth's axis. The main advantage is that the sun illuminates the dial from above in summer and from below in winter, which makes the reading uniform.
