French magnificent figurine pendulum with allegory of poetry. Honoré Pons, Paris.

"Pons" marked movement with half-hour strike on bell. Functional in short time test. white enamel dial marked "Weibel à Lyon" with Roman numerals, minute ring and Breguet hands.
Bronze, matt and bright gold-plated. 65 x 46.5 x 18 cm.
Seated female antique figure with a laurel wreath in her hair, holding a tablet, next to it scrolls and a book, scroll inscribed "Casse Arioste Dante". On a high stepped base with classical and baroque decorative elements, on four voluted feet. Here the reference to Dante Alighieri (1265-1321) and Ludovico Ariosto (1474-1533), two of Italy's greatest literary figures. Slight signs of age and wear, dial finely hairline cracked and with defects.
With pendulum with thread suspension, without key. Pierre-César Honoré Pons (1773-1851), French inventor, entrepreneur and master clockmaker from 1807.
