Art Nouveau armchair based on a design by Bruno Paul. United Workshops for Arts and Crafts.
Embossed company mark and artist's signet, metal plaque "Vereinigte Werkstätten F. Kunst I. Handwerk A.G. Berlin Bellevuestr. 5 A", from 1907. ca. 1910. embossed no. 4352 and no. 7262. design: Bruno Paul (1874-1968), execution: Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst und Handwerk.
Birch, solid and veneered. H 74 cm.
Round arched backrest with straight supports and curved, vertical decorative strips as backrest board, rounded seat in frame construction with small upholstery and stylized floral fabric cover, on four conical square legs. Recently upholstered and covered with fabric by Backhausen, Vienna. Signs of wear and slight defects.
Bruno Paul (1874-1968): Architect, caricaturist, furniture designer and interior decorator. As a university lecturer for many years, he influenced artists such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Adolf Meyer, George Grosz and Hannah Höchst. He is also considered a pioneer of modern architecture in Germany.
