Large Art Nouveau terracotta figurine "Lygia". Viennese manufactory Friedrich Goldscheider
Circa 1902/03. Relief mark GS 13 Sculpture, 1900-1920, with the addition "Reproduction Reservée", ca. 1895-1922. Signed "Gambeuche " on the hem. Model no. 2426 67 24. Light body, bronzed, matt glazed in dark brown tones and decorated in gold. H 74.5 cm.
Standing Roman woman with lowered head, on a natural base with relief column fragment, titled "Lygia par Gambeauche" with metal plaque. According to the GS catalog raisonné, this depicts the Roman slave Lygia from the time of Nero. Right finger glued, 1 finger missing, glaze rubbed, slightly cracked in places, restored(?).
