Small Art Nouveau terracotta bust "Oriental with turban". Alphonse Hanne
France. Around 1900, incised on the base "A. Hanne" (Louis Alphonse Hanne 1856-1908) and "J. Le Guluche". Model no. 192. design: Joseph LE GULUCHE (1849-1915), around 1895/1900. Red body, dark bronze matt glazed and subtly colored. H 40 cm.
Bust of a man with beard and turban looking to the right, made in the style of the Goldscheider figures, on a square base. Partially slight glaze rubbing and chipping.
The French manufactory Alphonse Hanne (L'Isle d'Adam) was one of Goldscheider's biggest competitors, particularly with regard to the production of orientalizing busts and figures. The manufactory won a number of prizes at exhibitions and had a branch in Paris, among other places. Busts and figures by Hanne are often confused with Goldscheider, as the models are often unmarked and very similar in theme and execution to those of Goldscheider.
