Large reclining female nude: La Seine
White marble. inscribed "Raoul Larche", marked "SUSSE FRES EDITEURS PARIS". 45 x 76 x 35 cm.
Female nude, resting sideways on waves. Arms and legs are gently caressed by the waves, whose flowing forms envelop the body like a delicate veil of fabric. Possibly the personification of the river Seine. Good overall condition with slight signs of age and wear, minor chipping.
François-Raoul Larche: sculptor and painter, studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, 1884-1911 regularly represented at the Salon des Artistes Francais, member of the jury of the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris, received a number of official commissions.
