PALLA, F
Large marble group of a striding couple
White marble. inscribed "F. Palla". H 68 cm. 46.85 kg.
A couple in historicizing dress on an oval plinth. The young woman holds a flower in her hand and plucks its petals while her companion watches her attentively. It is possibly a depiction of Paolo and Francesca from Dante's "Divine Comedy" or of Faust and Gretchen from Goethe's "Faust I", which could be indicated by a work by Theodor Pixis from 1863 in the Goethe Museum in Frankfurt. Restored at the collar and coat (man), small chips.
If it should be Ferdinando Palla, then: Italian sculptor (1852 - 1944).
Provenance : Museum estate of Peter Kaus.
