Prometheus, fighting with the eagle Aithon
Patinated bronze. inscribed "E. Rombaux", foundry mark "Vv L's Luppens Proriété", mark "23370" and "2". H 54.5 cm. 12.55 kg.
The Titan Prometheus in battle with the eagle Aithon on a terrain plinth. His right leg rests on a raised rock while he tries to fend off the eagle with his left arm. At the same time, he strikes out with the club in his right hand, while the eagle has already clawed at his left side. Signs of age and wear, rubbed patina, unevenness on the left calf (possibly casting defects), minor rust stains (eagle's tail feathers, Prometheus' crotch), residue from the unchased casting mold on the arms.
If it should be Egide Rombaux, then: Belgian sculptor (1865 Schaerbeek - 1942 Uccle), from 1879 he studied at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and at the same time worked as an assistant to Albert Desenfans, from 1889 to 1892 stay in Florence, 1895 return to Brussels, taught at the academies in Antwerp and Brussels.
