A rare motif of still life painting, arrangement with various books, quill, inkwell, sealing wax, spectacles and case scattered in the most beautiful randomness, depicted with quality and compositional power against a monochrome background. Traced signature Baye, remains of an old adhesive label with French inscription on the stretcher: "...Paris 1796-1875...Hotel Drouot 8.III.1930...André Schoeller". Profiled wash gold frame.
* André Charles Schoeller, 1879 Zurich - 1955 Brie-Comte-Robert, was one of the most influential art dealers and art experts on the Parisian art market. He had been established as an art historian and expert at the Parisian auction house Drouot since the 1920s.
