Pastel, washed in watercolor. Monogrammed in the lower right corner with the addition “Cherbourg.”

Slight creases in one corner.
German painter, graphic artist, and museum director; studied in Weimar under Klemm. During the Third Reich, his art was classified as “degenerate.” In 1951, he was museum director of the State Museums in Gotha; from 1954, he served as director of the East Asian Collection at the State Museums in Berlin.
