Pendant with a Mauritius stamp medallion, WILL ODENING.
The medallion is stamped 999.9 HH yellow gold; the pendant is stamped 925 silver (gold-plated). The pendant measures approx. 42.16 x 35.86 mm max., the stamp (measured in its frame) 24.01 x 20.97 mm. Total weight: 35.5 g.
An unusual pairing consisting of a gold plaque commemorating the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the Mauritius stamp, set within a pendant opulently decorated with botanical ornamentation in the Giardinetto style by the renowned goldsmith and jewelry designer Will Odening. The stamp shows slight signs of wear.
Stamped on the inside with ODENING (Will Odening). Will Odening operated a workshop in Leipzig starting in 1930 and exhibited at the Leipzig Trade Fair between 1931 and 1941. Later, he taught and worked in Hanover.
