Clock with a knight figure. Rouilly & Hooker, Paris.
France. Probably circa 1860 to 1889.
Count wheel striking mechanism, marked with the manufacturer’s name.
39.0 x 30.0 x 10.5 cm. 7.0 kg.
Clock with a string suspension on a black-lacquered metal base featuring rich, fire-gilded decorative elements, as well as a matte bronze figure of an idealized knight from the 13th or 14th century, holding a crown in his hand and depicted with a sword, battle axe, and a shield. The figure depicted is presumably either King Richard I “the Lionheart” of England or Louis XI “the Saint” of France during the Sixth Crusade. The dial features a minute track and Roman numerals. Function currently cannot be verified. The back glass is missing, and the mechanism on the front is warped, so the clock cannot be opened or wound. There is a chip on the dial at the 12 o’clock position.
Comes with a key. Shipping upon request.
