Historicist pendulum clock with singing figure. Honoré Pons, Paris.
France. The mechanism was manufactured between 1823 and 1827; the case was likely made around 1840.
The movement is marked with the inscription Honoré Pons à Paris.
43.5 x 31.0 x 12.0 cm. 7.4 kg.
Clock with string suspension in a neo-Gothic style, featuring a bronze figure—finished with a combination of matte and glossy fire-gilding—depicting a young man in the idealized costume of the first half of the 16th century, complete with a cloak and duckbill shoes, who is seated on a boulder—against which his walking stick, tied with a cloth, leans—and is playing the harp. The dial is silver-plated, features a minute track, and is inscribed with Roman numerals. Hands: Breguet hands. Functional in a brief test. No key. Dial markings worn; one string of the harp appears to have been replaced. The back glass is loose; it appears to have been replaced more recently and glued in place.
