German artist and art professor; studied at the Düsseldorf Academy under Teo Otto and Joseph Beuys. Together with Chris Reinecke, he founded the art project “LIDL.” He was politically active in his spare time and deliberately painted subversive works with politically and socially critical content. He became known primarily for his work on the German-German issue in collaboration with the artist A.R. Penck—who was still living in the GDR at the time but was ostracized—not least because of the 16-painting cycle “Café Deutschland.” All lots with a reserve (starting price) of at least 2,000€ will be cross-checked against the Art Loss Register database.
