This watercolor is particularly impressive in terms of quality, especially in the rendering of the face, which is why an attribution to Johanna Fischer (sometimes referred to simply as Jenny Fischer) does not seem unlikely.
Little is known about the Viennese portrait and still-life painter Johanna Fischer, and only a few works can be attributed to her with certainty. She was likely a student in Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller’s private class. In the 1840s, she was represented at the St. Anna Academy Exhibition in Vienna with approximately 10 paintings.
