Still life featuring, among other things, tulips and daffodils. From the Austrian artist’s late print series. Sheet slightly creased, frame chipped.
Son of a Czech goldsmith, trained in Vienna, professor in Dresden beginning in 1919; his work was denounced as “degenerate” during the Nazi era, exiled to London starting in 1938, where he was a member of resistance groups against the Nazi government in Germany; after World War II, he returned to Austria and later moved to Villeneuve near Montreux. Kokoschka is considered today one of the leading figures of Expressionism in Austria.
