Black Forest Clock Carrier.
Circa 1920.
Cast metal, painted. Height 40.0 cm. 2.25 kg.
Figure of a man with a cane and two clocks—one carried on his back and the other in front of his stomach—wearing traditional men’s attire from the southern Black Forest, the Baar region, or the town of Schwenningen, known for its watchmaking craftsmanship. The front watch can be wound and is partially functional (it stops with minor jolts; after winding, the pendulum must first be set in motion manually). Overall, there are slight signs of age and wear.
