Rudolf Ender (1898–1986) was born on November 22, 1898. As a young boy, he had to help out in his father’s workshop at an early age. From 1913 to 1916, he trained as a carpenter in Niederneuschöna. This proved very beneficial for his later career. In 1916, he was drafted into the military during World War I. Starting in 1919, he worked as a chessboard maker at a chessboard factory in Borstendorf. In 1927, he began working for his brother Herbert Ender as a toy maker. Rudolf Ender eventually took over the business from his brother in 1934.
