34 x 47 cm. Framed : 49 x 63.5 cm (gold frame).
Many horsemen engaged in battle on a wide plain under a slightly cloudy blue sky. Attached is an expert report by Dr. Walther Bernt from 1974. Canvas lined.
Dutch battle painter, printmaker, and draftsman; student of Thomas Wijck; later received further training at the court of Louis XIV under court painter Adam Frans van der Meulen. He accompanied the Austrian Field Marshal Prince Eugene of Savoy on his campaigns from 1708 to 1717 and painted the battles in detail. Later, he enjoyed a successful career at the court of Elector Johann Wilhelm of the Palatinate.
