Portrait of a young man with a full beard, his head turned to the side with an interested expression. The artist’s catalog raisonné includes numerous small-format head studies of Jewish citizens from the 1820s, originating from the Alex Galleries in Washington, D.C.. Canvas lined.
If this is indeed the artist Moritz Daniel Oppenheim, then the following biographical information applies: German portrait and history painter (1800 Hanau – 1882 Frankfurt am Main), a student at the Electoral Academy of Drawing in Hanau, later at the Academy in Munich. Subsequently studied at the Städel in Frankfurt am Main. Later a student of Regnault in Paris. He is considered the first Jewish artist of international renown.
