No maker's mark, engraved signature "A. Foretay." Probably circa 1900. Design: Alfred Jean Foretay(1861 Morges – 1944 Geneva)
Terracotta, glazed in dark bronze. H approx. 54 cm. 4.94 kg.
Bust of the female protagonist Salambo from the novel of the same name by Gustave Flaubert, depicted in a lively manner with flowing hair, floral adornments, a diadem, and a necklace; on a tapered natural pedestal with the inscription “Salambo”. Pedestal is minimaly chipped; glaze is minimaly worn.
