Freezing Couple
Patinated bronze. Signed "P. Roger-Bloche," 2x foundry mark "Susse Freres Editeurs Paris," with the addition "Cire perdue," titled "Le Froid." H 52.5 cm. 9.7 kg.
A couple pressed closely together in a slightly bent posture, trying to keep each other warm amid the freezing cold. Based on the 190 cm tall sculpture “Le Froid” by Roger-Bloche from 1901, which is now housed in the Musée d’Orsay. Signs of age and wear; patina rubbed off.
Paul Roger-Bloche: French sculptor whose artistic work was shaped by the Franco-Prussian War and World War I; he competed in the sculpture event at the 1924 Summer Olympics.
