Large-scale sculpture—Diana on the crescent moon
Patinated bronze, black stone base. Marked "Denéchau sc." Total height 85 cm / 73 x 52 x 40 cm. 41 kg.
Female nude figure reclining on a crescent moon. This is Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, the forest, and the moon. Signs of age and wear; patina partially rubbed off; scratches, possible residues from the casting mold that were not chiseled away or from attachments (right ankle, both upper arms, right wrist, and upper tip of the crescent moon), right wrist likely chipped and “sealed” with a type of wax, base loose.
Séraphin Denécheau: French sculptor; studied in the studios of François Rude and David d’Angers.
