Bronze figure of a blacksmith—“Le Travail”
Bronze with multicolored patina, black stone plinth. Signed "LeBourg," foundry mark "Medaille D'Or Paris M.D," additionally inscribed with "acquis par la Ville de Paris," titled "Le Travail." H 36.5 cm. 10 kg.
Bearded man seated on an anvil, leaning with his left hand on a large hammer, with various tools at his feet. Signs of age and wear; patina partially worn away; minor chips on the stone plinth.
Charles-Auguste Lebourg: French sculptor, student of Amédée Ménard and François Rude; “Le Travail” was originally a plaster statue for the 1883 Salon and was later cast in bronze.
