Biedermeier Necklace.
The chains tested as silver; the decorative elements are metal with a gold plating. Necklace length 59.5 cm; the cross (measured without pendants and eyelet) is approximately 64.83 x 53.67 mm. 47.5 g.
Biedermeier necklace, likely originally worn as part of traditional folk costume, possibly from Franconia. On a silver pea chain decorated with two pendants, two decorative elements—each set with a garnet and seed pearls (hollowed out and filled on the inside, as was typical of the period)—one of which is cross-shaped and features two teardrop-shaped and one spherical pendant. Slight signs of wear consistent with its age; minor scuffs on the gilding; the spherical pendant has dents; one garnet is chipped; the silver plating on the clasp mechanism is scuffed.
