Seated female nude with a bow and two greyhounds. Likely a depiction of Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, the forest, and the moon. Signs of age and wear, minor chips and scratches.
Ary Jean Léon Bitter: French artist; attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille beginning in 1895, where he was taught by Émile Aldebert and, starting in 1913, by Jules Coutan; worked in Paris beginning in 1902 in the studio of Louis-Ernest Barrias, and admitted to the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1906.
