Hollow-cast stone, marble base. 19th/20th century. Illegibly inscribed “F... B... France”. H 73. 29 kg.
A young woman wrapped in donkey skin. Possible reference to a traditional European fairy tale that became world-famous primarily through the French writer Charles Perrault under the title *Peau d'âne* (Donkey Skin) in 1694. Signs of age and wear; base heavily chipped (possibly supplemented); a crack on the reverse; chips; tips of the donkey’s ears broken off and reattached.
