Coffee break with two women and a man at a set table in the parlor. Mentioned in "Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration," Vol. 35, 1915, with the note "Private collection of A.K." This refers to the Darmstadt publisher Alexander Koch (1860 Cologne – 1939 Darmstadt), the editor of the magazine “Deutsche Kunst und Dekoration,” one of the most important art magazines of its time, which shaped German interior design. Alexander Koch also owned a large art collection, most of which he was forced to sell in 1935. The Nagel auction house had auctioned off the collection at that time.
German painter, illustrator, and graphic artist; studied at the Munich Academy; worked as an illustrator for the magazine “Jugend.” He was a founding member of the artists’ association “Die Scholle” as well as the Munich Neue Secession and worked for the magazine “Die Jugend.” All lots with a reserve (starting price) of at least €1,500 will be cross-referenced with the Art Loss Register database.
