Baroque Scholars' Library, 17th/18th Century
3.80 linear meters.
Baroque scholarly library in 64 volumes from the 17th and 18th centuries. A well-curated collection featuring titles in the classical fields of theology, classical philology, history, geography, and others. Notable examples include: Schilter. *Antiquitates Teutonica* I–III (complete set). 1727–1728; Ferrari. *Bibliotheca canonica* I–VIII (complete set). Rome, 1767; Cocceus. *Lexicon…sermonis hebraica*. 1714; Buxtorf. *Lexicon hebraicum*. 1698. All are in period bindings such as full parchment, half parchment, full leather, and only very few in half leather. 33 volumes are in folio format, 16 in octavo format, and the rest in small octavo through duodecimo. Most are somewhat stained, chipped, and browned; in a few cases, the headbands and covers have minor losses; predominantly old and more recent ownership inscriptions (including, frequently, those of the previous owner, a well-known classical philologist). Due to the nature of the paper, the pages are mostly browned, some are slightly stained, but overall they are very well preserved.
There is no title list; we ask that you inspect the books in person beforehand.
