4/4 violin with bow in box. Probably Kloz school Mittenwald.
Handwritten adhesive label inside: "Georg Witting fecit, Mittenwald 1775", indistinct stamp on the bottom. Probably 19th c.
Corpus 35 cm, bow 73 cm.
Un split maple back, partially figured maple rib, split spruce top, end knob flanked by thread inlays. Fingerboard and chin guard probably made of ebony, metal tailpiece. Easily responsive, playable violin with a beautiful sound. Unmarked pernambuco(?) bow with octagonal stick. Black case. Properly inserted chip 6 x 0.3 cm on soundpost side down to the purfling, hairline cracks in the rib, mostly closed hairline cracks in the soundboard, stock pegbox bulging. Hairline crack at bow between frog and screw.
