Three-faced Buddha.
Late 18th/early 19th c. Probably China.
Wood with gold painting. H 37,5 cm.
Figure in the verschränkungssitz with ungewöhnlichem Mudra. Two smaller faces on the back of the head. Figure hollow. Non-opening closure on the back. The front of the leg is connected to the figure with a dovetail joint. The wood is covered with a fabric on which both the layers of varnish and the gilding are built up. On the upper arms in each case a groove für further elements. Underneath partly with missing parts due to age and anobia corrosion. Restored / conserved in 1970, according to the accompanying manuscript. Strong signs of age.
