Handwriting of the artist to the art critic Paul Westheim (1886 - 1963): "Dear Mr. Westheim! It would give me great pleasure to appear in your art journal. Would have to bring up good photos of the most important works, however, which is not so easy [...] Cordially yours G. Marcks". Folded several times, left margin punched.
German sculptor and graphic artist, 1919 to 1924 teacher at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, from 1925 head of the sculpture class at the art school Burg Giebichenstein Halle, defamed under National Socialist dictatorship as "degenerate". His artistic estate is administered in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus Bremen: www.marcks.de.
