German painter, graphic artist and illustrator; appointed professor of graphic arts at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts in 1913, he is credited with significant contributions to the reconstruction of the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts after World War II, he received the North Gau Culture Prize of the City of Amberg in 1953 in the category "Fine Arts".
