The success of prestigious watchmakers such as Patek, Czapek & Cie (later Patek, Philippe & Cie) already in the mid-19th century prompted smaller manufactories to produce watches of equally high quality and provide them with imitation brand names. The brand name Pateck Genève was used by the Swiss manufacturer Armand Schwob & Frère and banned in the course of a lawsuit for infringement of the rights to the name from 1890/91.
