Portfolio work with 8 of 10 woodcuts on the verses of Ovid (including title page from 2 printing blocks), plus accompanying booklet in thread stitching (34.5 x 23.5 cm) with text in Latin and German and signed woodcut on the title page, somewhat soiled, pencil marks; original wing folder with title woodcut. It lacks: "Singing Orpheus", each with small holes in the corners by pin attachment, some foxing and traces of grip, folder with traces of use, slightly damaged.
German sculptor and graphic artist, 1919 to 1924 teacher at the State Bauhaus in Weimar, from 1925 head of the sculpture class at the art school Burg Giebichenstein Halle, defamed under National Socialist dictatorship as "degenerate". His artistic estate is administered in the Gerhard-Marcks-Haus Bremen: www.marcks.de.
