Relief crucifix in frame
Gilt bronze mounted on green velvet background in gilt molding frame. Inscribed with name and monogram. 43 x 33 cm, frame 56 x 43 cm.
Looking up Christ with nimbus crown of thorns. In 1901 Bistolfi completed the model for the crucifix, which was subsequently executed in various versions, including for the tomb of Riccardo Brayda in Villarbasse, the butcher Dorna tomb in Turin and the mausoleum of the Vittoriale degli Italiani. Surface stained, frame rubbed.
Italian sculptor in Turin, student of the Brera Academy of Milan, he is considered the most important Italian sculptor of Symbolism.
