Silver cigarette case with dedication of Hindenburg and writing.

Cigarette case on both sides with elegant niello stripe pattern. Inside engraved dedication: "Embassy Councilor von Hindenburg to Lieutenant Krüger in memory of joint activity for German prisoners Bern 1917". Letter dated 6/13/1918 on letterhead of the Department of Prisoner Affairs, Envoy Hindenburg to Mr. Krüger signed. Case few signs of age/use, letter crease marks, torn and partially browned.
Herbert von Hindenburg (1872 Berlin - 1956 Munich) was a German diplomat and writer. In 1911 he became an embassy counselor at the German Embassy in Rome. In 1918, during World War I, he was appointed to the legation in Bern, where he last served in the prisoner of war section until 1919. During this time he was awarded the title of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary.
