Blue background, rich gold staffage, pâte-sur-pâte painting on both sides. Signed with the monogram LB for Lawrence Birks. Frontal the muse Terpsichore with lyre, back floral arrangement. Adhesive label of Gilman Collamore, gold bottom mark, press marks with year mark. Gold edges partially rubbed.
Gilman Collamore (1834-1888), high-end importer of porcelain. Founded his firm in 1861, located at 5th Avenue and 30th Street since 1890. Birks, Lawrence (Lawrence Arthur, 1857-1935), pâte-sur-pâte painter, 1876-1894 at Minton Manufactory. Pupil of Marc Louis Solon. Cousin of Alboine Birks * partner auction miner.
