Rare transformation table "No.5": Description from the goods catalog of 1789 "[...] In a household is indisputably the most multiple use, the most accurate saving of space, the greatest perfection. [...] is the table folded and closed in a half circle, as it stands in a room on three feet. If you pull out the fourth foot and open the upper leaf, you have a completely round table with a queen and chess board. If you open the second leaf, you have a card table. If you finally open the third sheet, you have a desk covered with green cloth with a dinto barrel and a sandbox. If you lift a blanket attached here, so this partition of the table becomes a toilet.". Alt restored with additions, veneer scratched and dry cracked.
The Leipzig Electoral Saxon court cabinetmaker Friedrich Gottlob Hoffmann was considered one of the most important furniture manufacturers of early classicism in Germany, along with Abraham and David Roentgen; his "multifunctional furniture" is characterized by amazing changeability in design and material. This individual design allowed for different price categories that met the varying needs of customers from the bourgeoisie and aristocracy. In 1789, he published the world's first illustrated "catalog of goods", which ensured the distribution of his furniture and wide circles of buyers.
