Renaissance crossbow.
Dated "DL 1685" on butt plate. German.
L 69 cm, W 56 cm.
Wooden stock, probably beech, with engraved leg inlays, fine adjustable sights and warped thumb rest on butt. Trigger and set trigger. The bone inlays with floral elements and a jumping stag on the cheek rest. Large dry crack in the tip, string and string holder loose or torn, action sluggish, spring for arrow holder broken off. Otherwise nice original condition.
Provenance : From the weapons collection of the Princes Reuß j.L. at Osterstein Gera Castle. In 1945 it falls victim to the castle fire for the most part.
