A special result of intensive studies of Meissen flower painting of the mid-18th century and impressionist oil painting is the decor "Blue colorful flower painting". The members of the "development collective" took up old virtues around 1974 and invented compositions that went beyond any previously known framework of Meissen painting. On this exquisite tea service, Volkmar Bretschneider and Heinz Werner demonstrate their above-average skill, conjuring up a summer floral splendor in unbound, nuanced, watercolor-like painting. The painterly decoration is not repeated on any of the service pieces. The foliage of the underglaze painting is the connecting element between the individual pieces. Thus, a service was created "as a furious breakout from the learned rules of the Meissen standard flower painting ... and possesses a liveliness known from other Meissen floral painting only outside the range" (cf. Meissen Contours, p. 253). The enormous distance from the normal measure of Meissen flower painting and high challenges of the demanding mixed decoration had the consequence that this decoration (especially on the services without doubling, like this tea service) was rarely painted and consequently is very rare. (See Meissen Contours 1960 - 1990, pp. 84/85 and p. 253f).
