Painting detail after the painting by Alexander von Liezen-Mayer (1839 Györ - 1898 Munich). Gretchen, a character from the tragedy Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Colored painting, unsigned. Unglazed base, incised mark, pressed mark. Wide flame bar frame. Partial quite a few scratches, dull spots in the glaze.
Liezen-Mayer, portrait and history painter, studied at the academies in Vienna and Munich. Pupil of Eugen von Blaas. From 1862 worked in the studio of Carl Theodor von Piloty. 1884-1898 professor at the Munich Academy. Porcelain plaque * Partner auction Bergmann.
