Bronze patinated, black / greenish marble base. Inscribed with foundry mark. H 36 / 43 cm. 25 kg.
Expressive portrait of the car designer and major industrialist. Bronze and marble each somewhat rubbed / bumped.
H. Ley studied at the School of Applied Arts in Munich, student of the woodcarving school in Oberammergau and from the sculptor Hans Stangl in Munich. Also active in Düsseldorf. A copy of the Daimler bust by Ley, commissioned by Daimler-Benz A.G. in 1934 for Daimler's 100th birthday, is in the Gottlieb Daimler Memorial in Canstatt near Stuttgart.
