Small lacquer shrine with Buddha figure - Butsudan.
Edo period. Japan.
15 x 8.5 x 5.5 cm.
Extremely fine, colorful carving of a Buddha figure (Bosatsu) with inscribed aura, on a long-stemmed lotus blossom, supported by two figures above moving water. In a small shrine, painted gold on the inside and glossy black on the outside. With delicate mountings, possibly remnants of gilding. Slight signs of age and wear, a small area of lacquer missing on the reverse.
Provenance : Collection estate from Hanover.
