Large faience oven grate.
Unmarked. Probably 19th century
Glazed white. 78.5 x 53.5 x 9.5 cm.
Perforated panel in the Renaissance style, with a central coat of arms and a partially sculpted male head, surrounded by floral scrolls with mixed female and animal creatures, fluted frame. Partially chipped and cracked.
Provenance : This grille was part of a tiled stove that stood in a house in the Herrnhut quarter in Neuwied am Rhein. The houses of the Moravian Church were built in the middle of the 18th century. This stove grate may depict a historical figure such as Jan Hus.
